Mino-Bimaadiziwin
Mino-Bimaadiziwin has a beautiful meaning which translates from Anishinabemowin as “to live the good life.” Each and every one of us has been given gifts by Gitchi Manidoo (Great Spirit - Creator).
To Live the Good Life ... Starts with Love of the 7-Teachings of Mino-Bimaadiziwin.
Zaagiʼidiwin – Love, know peace is to know Love. Love must be unconditional. When people are weak, they need love the most.
Nibwaakaawin – Wisdom, cherish knowledge, is to know Wisdom. Wisdom is given by the Creator to be used for the good of the people.
Minaadendamowin – Respect, honor all creation is to have Respect. All of creation should be treated with respect. You must give respect if you wish to be respected.
Aakodeʼewin – Bravery, face the foe with integrity. In the Anishinaabe language, this word literally means “state of having a fearless heart.” To do what is right even when the consequences are unpleasant.
Gwayakwaadiziwin – Honesty, facing a situation is to be brave. Always be honest in word and action. Be honest with yourself first, and you will be able to be honest with others more easily.
Dabaadendiziwin – Humility, know yourself as a sacred part of Creation. You are equal to others, but you are not better.
Debwewin – Truth, is to know all of these things. Speak the truth. Do not deceive yourself or others.
Protect Our Manoomin
Design is shared with the Mukwa organization, emphasizing the importance of preserving and honoring the cultural heritage associated with manoomin, or wild rice.
The design reflects a deep respect for this native grain, integrating traditional Anishinaabe values with modern practices.
The design incorporates elements that represent the natural habitat of manoomin, including waterways and marshlands, which symbolize the environment in which it thrives. In the design features, the knockers celebrate the harvesters. Additionally, using traditional patterns, colors, and symbols will help highlight the spiritual significance of wild rice within Anishinaabe culture.
By collaborating on this design, the Mukwa organization aims to raise awareness and education about the ecological and cultural importance of manoomin, and to promote sustainable practices that honor the land and its resources.
This partnership reflects a commitment to stewardship and the preservation of traditions for future generations.
Dragonflies
In various Indigenous spiritual teachings, the dragonfly is a powerful symbol of inspiration.
Many Anishinaabe and Woodland elders view the dragonfly as a visitor from the spirit world. Their presence during times of mourning or transition signifies that the spirits of our ancestors and loved ones are near.
Oboodashkwaanishiinh, Dragonflies, with their ability to navigate both water and air, teach us the importance of balancing our emotions and intellect while gracefully adapting to life’s inevitable changes. Their agility and speed encourage us to embrace life with joy, gratitude, and a light heart, even in the face of adversity.
